North Kingstown
North Kingstown, Rhode Island, is a town in Washington County with a population of approximately 27,732. It is part of the Providence metropolitan area and has a rich historical heritage. The town is home to the birthplace of renowned American portraitist Gilbert Stuart, located in the village of Saunderstown. Quonset Point, a former Naval Air Station, is also situated here and is known for the invention of the Quonset hut. The historic village of Wickford, home to Smith's Castle, was one of the earliest settlements, founded by Roger Williams and Richard Smith.
North Kingstown was originally part of Kings Towne, established in 1674, which later split into North and South Kingstown in 1723. The town covers 58.3 square miles, with 25.28% of it being water, providing access to scenic coastal areas. Notably, North Kingstown was designated a World War II Heritage City in 2024, reflecting its historical significance.
