Jamestown is a coastal town in Newport County, Rhode Island, with a population of approximately 5,559. Located primarily on Conanicut Island, the second-largest island in Narragansett Bay, Jamestown also includes Dutch Island and Gould Island. Jamestown is connected to North Kingstown via the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge and to Newport by the Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge. It was first settled in 1678 and named after James, Duke of York.
