Hopkinton
Hopkinton is a town in Washington County, Rhode Island, with a population of approximately 8,398. Incorporated in 1757 and named after Stephen Hopkins, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, the town was once home to several industrial villages, such as Locustville and Wood River Iron Works. Today, only Hope Valley, Rockville, Ashaway, and Bradford have post offices. Located along the Pawcatuck and Ashaway Rivers on the Connecticut border, Hopkinton spans 44.1 square miles. It is the southernmost town along Rhode Island’s portion of Interstate 95, making it the first town for northbound travelers.
